Inverters are the power electronic modules used for converting newlineAlternating Current (AC) from Direct Current (DC) in many applications such as newlineelectric drives, electric vehicles, energy distribution systems and renewable newlineenergy systems. The conventional two level inverters have several disadvantages newlinesuch as large number of switches with high power rating, high switching stress, newlineneeding of large filters, low quality output and no voltage gain. The research in newlinethe field of inverters lead to the development of Multilevel Inverters (MLI) from newlinethe two level inverters. The multilevel inverters are state-of-the art technology in newlinethe modern power systems. The major advantages of MLI are nearly pure newlinesinusoidal waveform, reduced Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), reduced newlineElectromagnetic Interference (EMI), reduced stress on the switches, etc. newlineThe conventional topologies of MLIs namely switched capacitor MLI, neutral newlinepoint clamped MLI, cascaded H-bridge MLI were developed earlier to improve newlinethe quality of the AC output voltage. Though MLIs have advantages over newlineconventional two level inverters, they also suffered with disadvantages like no newlineboosting capability, high number of switches, high cost function, etc. As to newlinereduce the drawbacks in conventional MLI topologies, the hybrid MLIs were newlinedeveloped by combining the structure of two or more conventional MLIs. newlineThe major superiority of hybrid MLIs over other conventional MLIs are its newlinevoltage boosting capability, reduced number of switches for high power rating, newlinelow voltage or current stress, improved power quality and reduced filter newlinerequirement. The hybrid MLIs paved ways for the development of new newlinetopologies adaptable to various applications such as power distribution systems, newlinesolar photovoltaic systems and battery storage energy systems with many newlineadvantages compared to the conventional MLIs. newline
