Laws relating to fast fashion industry with special reference to sustainable development a study

Abstract

With the rapid development in technology, new production methods are available which supply the latest styles in the market almost instantaneously. This process, popularly known as fast fashion has created revolution in the fashion industry. No doubt consumers get whatever they desire in the shortest span of time but this process of fast fashion has generated several environmental and social concerns. The fashion industry has become the second largest polluter of the environment. The fast fashion process leads to over-consumption where consumers buy more than what they need, in the end resulting in the generation of fashion waste . The current fashion system is unsustainable and it will be a big risk for our environment if this toxic system continues. This study analyses the international and national legal framework with respect to sustainability in fast fashion industry. The study explores environmental and social issues which emerge from the fast fashion model and discuss the statutory measures to fight against them. The research highlights the remarkable role legislation can play in addressing the issues created by this industry by framing rules, regulations, and statutes. Considering all the aspects, certain key suggestions have been drawn out so that the fashion industry remains sustainable. newline
