dc.description.abstractUnderwater Sensor Network (UWSN) is a network of autonomoussensor nodes that are spatially distributed in the aquatic environment to sensevarious water related properties. The sensed information are transmitted to theoffshore remote stations for further processing of the data. UWSN has drivengreater attention in the research field due to its applications like underwatersurveillance, pollution monitoring, disaster prevention, assisted navigationand exploration of oceanic resources.In Underwater sensor network, the accurate location of each sensornode is of prime importance and the process of determining the location ofeach sensor node is known as localization. Although numerous localizationalgorithms exist in the terrestrial Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), theycannot be applied in the UWSN, due to the unique characteristics of theaquatic environment. The most common and the simplest method forlocalization, is by utilizing a Global Positioning System (GPS) system.But GPS does not function in the UWSN, as the radio signals cannot passdeep inside the water. newline
