| dc.description.abstract | Aim newlineTo evaluate the effectiveness of oral proteolytic enzymes such as newlineSerratiopeptidase, Bromelain, trypsin, and chymotrypsin compared with a newlineplacebo in post-operative sequelae following third molar surgery. newlineMaterials and Methods newlineThe study was conducted among 44 patients with mesioangular impacted newlinePosition A or Position B teeth who were randomly allocated into four newlinegroups.Group A, patients were administered Oral Serratiopeptidase 10 mg. newlineGroup B patients were given Oral Trypsin-Chymotrypsin,Group C was given Oral newlineBromelain and Group D was given a placebo drug. All the procedures were newlineperformed by a single operator. All the parameters were measured newlinepreoperatively and postoperatively to assess the efficacy of proteolytic enzymes newlineused in this study for reducing the postoperative sequelae following third molar newlinestudy. newlineResults newlineThe study consisted of 4 groups of which the primary outcome measured were newlinethree point measurement of swelling, maximal mouth opening and pain at pre op, newline2nd POD and 7th POD.The data was analyzed using statistical package for newlinewindows [SPSS version 21, Armonk, IBM Corp. USA]. There was a significant newlinedifference in swelling at point C between the bromelain and placebo group( newlinePlt0.05).There was a significant statistical difference in the maximal mouth newlineopening in all three groups receiving proteolytic enzymes(Plt0.05).There was no newlinesignificant difference in pain among the four groups. newlineConclusion newlineIn comparison to the other two proteolytic enzymes, Bromelain showed the newlinegreatest reduction in edema and trismus. The preoperative and postoperative newlinepain are not significant among these groups. newline | |
