Abstract
This study investigates the human resource management practices and employee performance within the Department of Agriculture, Government of Maharashtra. It aims to identify key factors influencing employee satisfaction, performance, and overall organizational effectiveness across various districts, including Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara. The research examines gender distribution, experience levels, training participation, performance appraisals, career development, and the effectiveness of different training methods.
newlineThe workforce across districts shows a significant gender imbalance, with male employees dominating administrative and on-field roles. However, Satara exhibits a slightly more balanced gender distribution, especially in on-field positions. Experience levels vary among administrative and on-field staff, with Kolhapur having a high proportion of new administrative staff, while Satara boasts a more seasoned workforce. On-field staff across districts largely comprises individuals with 1 to 2 years of experience, indicating recent growth or turnover. Performance management and appraisal rank highest in terms of importance across districts, reflecting a commitment to maintaining high standards. Training and development and compensation management follow closely, indicating significant investment in employee growth and motivation. However, areas such as career development, employee motivation, and work-life balance require more attention to improve employee satisfaction and retention.
newlineTraining program attendance shows a significant difference between administrative and on-field staff, with on-field staff displaying much higher participation rates. Over 90% of on-field staff attended training programs, compared to around half of administrative staff.
