Abstract
The estimated global prevalence of superficial cutaneous mycosis is
newline20-25%. (Hay et al, 2014) There is a geographical and temporal variability in
newlinethe prevalence of these infections. The incidence of these infections are
newlineconstantly increasing and has become a public health problem especially in
newlinethe Indian scenario, which is an indicator of change in local epidemiological
newlinetrends. Additional to this there a change in the pattern of clinical presentation
newlineand predominate etiological agents. The heterogeneity in the distribution of
newlineetiological agents in different parts of the world and from one geographic
newlineregion to another region in the country has been attributed to various sociodemographic,
newlineenvironmental, clinical and mycological factors.
