Abstract

ABSTRACT newlineThe thesis presents the smart applications of graphene oxide and graphene oxide/metal nanoparticle hybrid system. The increased interest and industrial demand of Graphene based material motivated to synthesis high pure graphene oxide and explore physical and chemical properties. The graphene oxide synthesized was synthesized via Hummers method and it has reduced to rGO via hydrothermal method. The detailed investigation carried out on physical, chemical, and optical properties of GO and rGO. The synthesized materials undergone for various testing and analysis like UV-Visible Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy (FT-IR) , Thermogravimetric (TG), Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA), Raman Spectroscopy, Photoluminescence (PL) for physical and chemical characterization. The morphological characteristics of GO and rGO studies using Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). The quantity of oxygen presence in the Graphene Oxide (GO) and rGO confirmed using Electron Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (EDX) spectroscopy. newlineThe Photoluminescence behaviour of GO has been improved by using GO/Metal Nanoparticle hybrid. The interaction of graphene oxide with Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) has been studied by measuring UV-Visible absorption of the samples containing various amounts of GO. The effect of GO concentration on fluorescence quenching of BSA also studied. The fluorescence quenching phenomenon of GO also tested with coumarin dye and quenching characteristics explored. The sensing characteristics of GO evaluated against low level concentration of formaldehyde gas up to 50ppm. The graphene oxide has been deposited on glassy carbon electrode to obtain better electrochemical performance. The electrochemical degradation of methylene blue was done using graphene oxide modified glassy carbon electrode and rGO modified glassy carbon electrode. newlineThe work carried out in this report has given a platform to explore graphene oxide as a potential candida
