Abstract
The main aim of this research project has been to study the representation of
newlinecommunal violence and trauma in the works of the selected authors. The texts
newlineselected for intensive study are Pages Stained With Blood (2002) by Indira
newlineGoswami, Pervez: A Novel (2002) by Meher Pestonji, In Times of Siege (2003)
newlineby Githa Hariharan, The Assassin s Song (2007) by M.G. Vassanji, Roll of
newlineHonour (2012) by Amandeep Sandhu, Helium (2013) by Jaspreet Singh, Our
newlineMoon has Blood Clots (2013) by Rahul Pandita and The Book of Gold Leaves
newline(2014) by Mirza Waheed. Representation of communal violence means studying
newlinehow these texts deal with violence and what kind of violence. Hence, the
newlineemphasis is on understanding the wellsprings of communal violence in India and
newlinedifferent shades of violence as well as the narrative strategies these authors have
newlineemployed to represent the communal conflagrations.
