Abstract
Education was once considered as the process of transmitting knowledge and information through teacher centered and subject centered methods. A thorough grip on the subject matter and extempore lecturing were the main attribute of good teaching. But as researches progressed and more and more insights on the process of learning are drawn there has been a 3600 change in the approaches of assessing the competency of teachers and the effectiveness of teaching. Many studies are being undertaken all over the world by thousands of enthusiastic scholars to investigate into the various aspects of teaching and learning process, teacher attributes, learner attributes, learning material and on many other aspects. The present study tried to inter-relate the three critical attributes of teaching and learning situation that are a study of Mathematical pedagogical competency of primary school teachers, teaching aptitude and attitude towards teaching profession. From the analysis of data it is noted that primary school teachers differ in mathematical competency and it is necessary to adopt suitable measures to strengthen their mathematical competency. It also noted that aptitude is an essential pre-requisite for professional success and proper aptitude assessment is necessary at the entrance level to the teacher training courses. It is further noted that motivational programmes to generate positive attitude towards teaching in general and towards mathematics teaching in particular way of great help.
