The concept of decentralized electricity generation using renewable newlineenergy resources has emerged as a major alternative to the conventional power newlinegeneration. The major drawback of any renewable energy-based resource is its newlineintermittency that affects the system reliability which can be overcome by using newlinea supporting technology like energy storage and power conditioning. A newlinemechanical flywheel has emerged newer energy storage device that is predicted newlineto play a considerable role in electrical power system for the reason that it is newlinefully sustained energy form with low financial burden. As a key component in newlinemodern and alternative energy storage system, the flywheels are manufactured newlineusing various types of materials they coexist and are also preferred for discrete newlinetechnical applications from low level energy storage system to that of mega- newlineWatts capacity rating. newlineThe utmost non-relaxable characteristics that of the flywheels reckon newlinethem to be most suitable for applications which require a transient response and newlineelevated daily cycles of operation, a contemporary necessity to reduce the grid newlineinertia. The electrochemical technology which is adopted for the present-day newlinemainstream energy storage needs include the lead-acid and lithium-ion newlinebatteries. Despite the fact the electrochemical technology is preferred pick newlineconsidering its fast response and high energy density; it has low life cycle and newlineannual life. This negative inference shall get mitigated through an adequate newlineenergy capacity with a limitation to the level of discharge for a short-duration newlinephase. When the World is exploring mechanical form, thermoelectric and other newlineadvanced energy storage technologies, and flywheel-based energy storage newlinearrangement will endow with expanded energy storage at reduced financial newlinecommitment, with improved sustainability in contrast to the present-day newlinetechnology. newline
