Abstract
The Indian Ocean is a region of complexities due to the seasonal reversal of winds
newlineassociated with the monsoon. These winds bring about large changes in the atmospheric and
newlineoceanographic features over the Indian Ocean region. It is difficult to understand the physical
newlineprocesses over the atmosphere and ocean only from field measurements. By the advent of
newlinesatellites, availability of high resolution spatial and temporal scale data improved our
newlineunderstanding of the various physical processes in the ocean, atmosphere and in the interface. In
newlinespite of this, many of the features in the ocean remain unexplored. In this thesis, an attempt is
newlinemade to bring out results on air sea interaction processes during the monsoon season and their
newlineinterannual variability.
