Academic tenacity emotional intelligence grit and career anchors as the determinants of employability skills among the fresh engineering graduates in India

Abstract

The burgeoning technological advancement such as Industry 4.0 and adaptability to the transformational phase of change have become the primary cause of misalignment between employability skills of fresh engineering graduates and labour market demand in India (Microsoft, 2019; FICCI and NASSCOM, 2017; Chand, Kumar and Mittal, 2019; International Federation of Robotics, 2019; Dutta, 2015). The consequences of technological advancement have been distinctly studied by prior researchers in various forms, such as role ambiguity (Lo et al., 2020), organizational ambidexterity (Lubatkin et al. 2006; Carmeli and Halevi, 2009), world- class manufacturing (Petrillo et al., 2019), volatile uncertainty complex and ambiguous environment (Rimita et al., 2020). newlineThe industry experts, academicians, and other stakeholders, such as the Indian government, are concerned about youth employability skills (Shah, 2020). Hence the human resources strategies in Indian organization should benchmark the global changes and explore to include high-performance work system (Singh et al.,2020), career resilience (Maree, 2018), open innovation (Bogers, 2018), employee retention (Singh, 2019), total quality management (Psomas and Antony, 2017), human engineering (Annabi et al., 2017), competency mapping (Sanghi, 2016), developing employability skills (Khurana and Mishra, 2021; Sinha et al., (2019), gig economy (Krishna, 2021), corporate social responsibility (Mishra, 2021), leader-member exchange (Aggarwal et al., 2020) and organizational virtuousness (Dubey et al., 2019). newline
