Abstract
inoculation of four multipurpose tree species (Acacia nilotica, Albizia procera,
newlineDalbergia sissoo and Leucaena leucocephala), four tree borne oil seed species
newline(Azadirachta indica, Jatropha curcas, Madhuca latifolia and Pongamia pinnata)
newlineand two bamboo species (Bambusa bambos and Dendrocalamus strictus). To
newlineachieve this, a series of experiments on field surveys, identification of common
newlineVAM fungi in rhizosphere of selected tree species, culturing, purification and
newlinecharacterization of VAM fungi, screening of the fungi for improved seedling
newlinegrowth, response to VAM inoculation in non-sterile alfisol and vertisol, effect of
newlinecotyledon removal on growth, phosphorus (P) uptake and mycorrhizal
newlinedependency (MD) of Jatropha and build up of VAM fungi in host roots were
newlineconducted.
