dc.description.abstractnewline Materials play a vital role in the development of any society. Today s developing world needs rapid industrialization. In order to meet the rising needs of industry it has become imperative to build new materials and also to amend the existing material. In past, significant advancement was made in utilizing materials depending upon their experimental information related to properties and performance and succeeding treatment. Advancements of basic understanding and the capacity to design material prosperity to demanding requirements are most clear in advanced materials. newline newlineErosive and sliding wear is a matter of imperative industrial importance, though in past erosive wear and sliding wear was studied broadly by researchers but it received little consideration from the metallurgical point of view. Previous investigations dealt with investigations of the mechanical and physical processes or experimental determination of the relative erosive or sliding wear resistance of materials without laying emphasis on nature of damage. Although erosive and sliding wear is a subject of immense industrial importance yet it has received scant attention in the research especially from the metallurgical view of point. The previous investigations merely focused on erosive or sliding wear resistance materials without laying much emphasis on nature of damage caused. newline newlineSlurry erosion is a global problem effecting hydro power plants, oil industry, marine industry and sewerage equipments. Researchers reported that failure of components in such an industry owns to slurry erosion and corrosion. Similarly in automobile sector the problem of sliding wear is very common. Erosive and sliding wear leads to premature newline newlinefailure of turbine blades, sewerage equipments, walls of pipe line, nozzle and automobile parts etc. due to reduction in their wall thickness of the components. newline newlineIn slurry erosion the contact duration between erodent and target material is temporary as compared to sliding wear.
