Abstract
newlineThis thesis aims at investigating through mathematical analysis the
newlineeffects of various parameters on the flow velocity and temperature variations
newlinewithin the boundary layer formed in a visco elastic fluid Walters Liquid B
newlinemodel as a hot stretching sheet passes through it This subject has direct
newlineapplications in a number of industries one of which involves polymer
newlineextrusion processes to which this study directly relates
newlineChapter 1 gives a critical review of the existing literature on the
newlinesubject matter This has given the motivation for doing further work in this
newlinearea and defines the scope of this research work Typical problems have been
newlineidentified to represent various parameters that are proposed to be studied in
newlinestages for their effect on the end result
newlineIn the first problem chapter 2 the magnetohydrodynamic MHD
newlineflow and heat transfer characteristics are studied in a porous medium past a
newlinestretching sheet For the heat transfer problem two particular cases are
newlineidentified for study namely the Prescribed Surface Temperature PST case
newlineand Prescribed Heat Flux PHF case These two cases are considered further
newlinewhile dealing with the heat transfer problem in the subsequent chapters as
newlinewell The partial differential equations governing the fluid flow in the
newlineboundary layer along with the appropriate boundary conditions are first
newlinetransformed into a set of non linear ordinary differential equations using
newlinesuitable similarity transformations
