Abstract
Bricks and blocks are essential building materials in both
newlineresidential and commercial structures. Due to the scarcity of raw materials for
newlinetraditional clay bricks, alternative bricks have been introduced. Fly ash bricks
newlineare the most frequently used type of brick in wall construction. Recently, fly
newlineash brick has been modified into fly ash blocks due to the reduction of brick
newlinemortar joints. Olivine sand is a residue of the magnesite extraction process. It
newlinepossessed good magnesium and silica content. This rich potential property of
newlineolivine sand is effectively utilized in solid block manufacturing. This research
newlinepromotes using sustainable, eco-friendly green building blocks in addition to
newlinetraditional masonry blocks. This innovative idea of utilizing olivine sand in
newlinesolid block manufacture significantly reduces the environmental pollution
newlineproblem, offers an alternative construction material source, and makes the
newlinesolid blocks economical.
newlineThe present study attempts to find an optimum proportion of
newlineolivine sand in innovative green solid block manufacturing. Various trials
newlinehave prepared the innovative solid block using olivine sand, coal ash, fly ash,
newlinelime, gypsum, and granite powder. A detailed experimental investigation was
newlinecarried out to determine the properties of green solid block and its masonry.
newlineIn this investigation, the specimens of size 230 mm × 230 mm × 75 mm were
newlinecast to determine the compressive strength, water absorption, weight density,
newlineefflorescence, and hardness of the green solid block. The durability properties
newlinesuch as a chemical attack, Initial Rate of Absorption (IRA) and sorptivity
newlinewere also examined for the green solid block
newline
