Abstract
ABSTRACT
newlineBackgroud:Numerous traditional Indian medicinal plants have been shown to be useful in
newlinetreating diabetes. A significant advantage of therapeutic plants is their widespread availability
newlineand little undesirable consequences. Extracts of lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus) and its
newlineoil have been shown to be effective against a wide array of pathogenic microorganisms.
newlineLemongrass essential oil has been widely used as an antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial
newlineagent on several occasions. Essential oils are natural molecules that research indicates may
newlineserve as alternatives to synthetic pesticides, owing to their efficacy, environmental
newlinesustainability, and availability in several locations afflicted by mosquito-borne illnesses.
newlineAims:The main aim of this research is to extract and characterise lemongrass essential oil to
newlineassess its antibacterial, mosquito larvicidal, and diabetic wound healing potential.
newlineMaretials and Methods:The extraction of lemongrass oil was performed using steam
newlinedistillation and microwave-assisted hydrodistillation methods. The essential oil was
newlinecharacterised using GC-MS. FTIR analysis was used to elucidate the chemical makeup of the
newlineessential oils. NMR spectroscopy was employed to analyse all metabolites contained in the
newlineextract. The antimicrobial effectiveness of lemongrass oil was evaluated using the disc
newlinediffusion method and the minimum inhibitory concentration assay. A larvicidal experiment
newlinewas conducted on Anopheles stephensi larvae to evaluate the effectiveness of the organic oil.
newlineA diabetes-induced wound healing experiment was conducted on 8-10-week-old mice (n=6)
newlineto evaluate the efficiency of the essential oil in wound repair.
newlineResults:This study demonstrated that microwave hydro distillation removed the major
newlinecomponents of lemongrass essential oil better than steam distillation. Citral, the main
newlinecomponent, is antibacterial. The chemical makeup of lemongrass essential oils from other
newlineplant sections must also be examined. This study found bactericidal efficacy against Listeria
newlinemonocyto
