newlineThe study entitled Fodder Cultivation and its influential role on livelihood status
newlineamong the farmers in Kerala was undertaken to study the impact of fodder technology
newlineon livelihood of farmers so that the results will help in understanding the needed
newlinetechnology interventions in green fodder and helps in improving the overall productivity
newlineof farm and economy of the farmers and develop suitable livelihood strategies to support
newlinethe survival of the small scale farmers of the country. An index EESI was developed to
newlineanalyse the sustainability of fodder cultivation and another index LPI was developed to
newlineunderstand different dimension of livelihood of fodder cultivating farmers. The study
newlineconcentrated in identifying the contributing variables towards livelihood, sustainability
newlineand perception of farmers on fodder cultivation. Constraints faced by fodder cultivating
newlinefarmers were enlisted and suggestions to overcome the constraints were obtained from
newlinethe farmers.
newlineThe study was conducted in three districts of Kerala state. The fourteen districts of
newlineKerala are distributed as Malabar region (northern Kerala), Kochi region (central Kerala) and
newlineTravancore (southern Kerala). From each region, district with highest area under fodder
newlinecultivation was selected Wayanad from northern Kerala, Palakkad from central Kerala
newlineand Kottayam from southern Kerala were selected. From each district, two blocks with
newlinemaximum area under green fodder were identified and selected as location of research.
newlineThe identified blocks were Uzhavoor and Erattupetta from Kottayam, Attappady and
newlineChittoor from Palakkad and Kalpetta and Mananthawadi from Wayanad. List of
