dc.description.abstractetamaterials are specially engineered materials which derive their unique properties from newlinecarefully designed unit cells. It is the geometric shape and design that is responsible for its newlineunusual characteristics rather than the chemical composition. The maximum size of unit cell is newlinekept less than the wavelength (and#120582;) of incident radiation, particularly, in microwave engineering newlinedomain. These subwavelength dimensions of the unit cell result in flexibility. to mount over newlinesurfaces ranging from small to large in area. Moreover, the sub-wavelength size makes the newlinereflection and refraction phenomenon more significant than the diffraction and scattering. This newlinecapability allows to create materials with negative or near zero refractive index by manipulating newlinethe values of effective permittivity (and#120576;and#119890;and#119891;and#119891;) and permeability (and#120583;and#119890;and#119891;and#119891;). These extraordinary newlineproperties, which are unachievable with traditional methods, helps in the development of newlinecompact, high-performance structure that outperforms their conventional counterparts. newlineMetamaterials can have both negative permittivity and negative permeability; therefore, they are newlinereferred as Double Negative (DNG) material. It represents a fascinating frontier in the realm of newlinemicrowave applications. In microwave technology, metamaterial structure includes absorbers newlinethat trap and dissipate electromagnetic radiation efficiently, advanced antennas with enhanced newlinebandwidth and efficiency, metamaterial lenses for sensors, meta surfaces for phase shifters and newlinereflector arrays, tunable and reconfigurable microwave devices, waveguides and transmission newlineline for high frequency microwave circuits, compact and efficient microwave filters and newlinefrequency selective surfaces, lenses with unprecedented precision and efficiency for medical newlineimaging, security screening and non-destructive testing applications. As research and newlinedevelopment in metamaterials continue to evolve, their impact on microwave applications newlinepromises to revolutionize telecommunications, sensing technologies and beyond newline
