dc.description.abstractAgriculture has been the basic source of subsistence for mankind over millions of newlineyears. The present study was conducted on Value chain analysis of arecanut in Karnataka-A newlineManagement Appraisal. Based on highest area and production Davanagere, Shivamogga, newlineChikkamagaluru and Dakshina Kannada were selected for the study. The respondents were newlineselected by simple random sampling method. The total sample size was 192 farmers, 160 newlinemarket intermediaries, four developmental agencies and four processing units comprising of newlinesample size to 360. Primary data and secondary data were utilized for the study. The newlineanalytical tools used were descriptive statistics, compound annual growth rate, NPV, IRR, newlinePay Back Period, Benefit Cost Ratio and Garrett s ranking technique. The arecanut scenario newlinein Karnataka has been consistently improving during the study period, viz. from 2004-05 to newline2020-21. There has been a sharp increase in area, production and productivity as shown by newlinepositive growth rates during the study period. The major growing states were Karnataka. newlineKerala, Assam, Meghalaya and Tamil Nadu were shown positive trends in area and newlineproduction of arecanut. The major growing districts in Karnataka were Davanagere, newlineShivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Dakshina Kannada and other districts recorded positive newlinegrowth rate in area and production of arecanut during the study period. With respect to cost of newlinecultivation dividing into three parts i.e initial cost, maintenance cost during gestation period newlineand cost of cultivation during bearing period. The initial cost 2,64,806.33 and maintenance newlinecost was 4,23,014.96. The over all establishment cost was 6,87,821.19. The cost of newlinecultivation during bearing period with respect to Rashi pooled together Rs.2,84,424.42 and newlinewith respect to Chali 2,60,691.03.The yield and returns structure of raw arecanut with newlinerespect to Rashi was 128.75 quintal arecanut produced and in case of Chali arecanut 116.50 newlinequintal of arecanut produced. The returns was more in Rashi type arecanut 4,14,507.83 and newlinewhile in Chali arecan
