The study of various telecom operators conveys that the volume of data newlinetransmission on the routers and switches is directly proportional to the amount newlineof the power consumption at the data plane. The study of router architecture newlinereveals that line cards are the most power-expensive components that newlineconsumes 67%-78% of energy during the transmission of data. A newlinesubcomponent of line card, named forward engine that performs lookup newlineoperation, is the most power-consuming component that consumes 53% of newlineenergy within a line card. In the literature of energy saving networking newlinetechniques, two eminent techniques Burst Transmission Rate (BTR) and newlineAdaptive Link Rates (ALR) were proposed to reduce energy consumption at newlinedata plane by switching the power states of line cards from active state to idle newlinestate when there is no transmission or the rate of transmission decreases. The newlinestudies reveal that ALR is worth of saving $300 million per year and BTR newlinecould save energy by only consuming power proportional to the usage of line newlinecards. The state analyses of these techniques disclose the need for the newlineenhancement of energy savings by fine tuning the usage of line cards. In this newlineresearch, the first contribution is the proposal of a hybrid technique Burst newlinebased Adaptive Link Rates (BBALR) that is constructed upon reaping the newlineaccumulated benefits of the BTR and ALR. Through simulation, it has been newlineobserved that BBALR reduces the power consumption to an average of 1 Wh newlinewhich is at least half lesser than ALR and BTR for high traffic rates. newline
