Abstract
This research is based on a citation analysis of doctoral dissertations in electrical
newlineengineering submitted between 2012 2018. The citations provided in these
newlinedissertations were chosen as sample of the study. During this period, twenty doctoral
newlinedegrees were awarded. The scholar of the electrical engineering department (EED) of
newlineSVNIT, Surat have cited a total of 2524citation counts in twenty theses submitted
newlineduring the period. These references consist of journal articles, articles from
newlineconference proceedings, books, internet sources, reports, standards, PhD theses, etc.
newlineThe average number of citation counts per thesis is found to be 126.2.
newlineThe study revealed that IEEE is the leading publisher with 836 publications (48.49%),
newlinefollowed by Elsevier publisher with 532 publications (3.86%), and IET with 90
newlinepublications (5.22 %) at third position in journals category. The study also revealed
newlinethat IEEE publisher is a leading publisher with 361 publications of proceedings
newline(82.42%), followed by Elsevier publisher with 14 publications (3.20%).
newlineThe journal IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, published by IEEE, USA, is the
newlinehighest cited journal.
newlineThe study revealed the USA is the most preferred nation from where citations are
newlinetaken with the publication of 931 journals.
newlineWhile studying the impact factor and h-Index of the cited journals, it was found that
newlinethere is no consistent relation between the highly cited journals with the high impact
newlinefactor and high h-Index journals. The probability of getting cited is not based on the
newlineimpact factor and h-Index of the journals, but it depends on the relevance of articles to
newlinethe topic under study.
newlineRegarding the productivity of the PhD supervisors, the study revealed Dr S. P.
newlineGhoshal had published a maximum of papers, 292 (45.41%), followed by Dr Ranjit
newlineRoy 79 (12.29%). Dr Sabha Raj Arya has the third-highest publications, 64 (9.95%)
newlineindexed in Scopus.
newlineIn conclusion, it can be claimed that IEEE and its publications are the most preferred
newlinesource of information consulted by scholars in EED.
