Abstract
Surface finish of work piece enhances the appearance and overall
newlinequality of the component The properties of the surface can significantly
newlineaffect friction wear fatigue corrosion thermal conductivity etc Hence
newlineinspection of the surface finish is essential for product quality control
newlineMajority of the commercial surface roughness measuring instruments are of
newlinecontact type and are widely accepted for inspection But its inability for faster
newlineevaluation and its incompatibility for automation have led to alternate
newlinetechniques for faster measurement Machine vision is tried as substitute for
newlineroughness instruments Many investigations are being carried out to evaluate
newlinesurface roughness using machine vision
