Myth Society and Identity A Study of Githa Hariharans Selected Novels

Abstract

The present research entitled Myth, Society and Identity: A Study of Githa newlineHariharanand#8223;s Novels focuses on the analysis of identity of female as well as male in a newlinemyth oriented society. Myths are used as strong tools to exemplify the characters in newlinethe novels of Githa Hariharan. This study analyzes the intense relationship of newlinecharacters and culture through the light of myth. Five novels of Githa Hariharan i.e. newlineThe Thousand Faces of Night (1992), The Ghosts of Vasu Master (1994), When newlineDreams Travel (1999), In Times of Siege (2003) and Fugitive Histories (2009) are newlineselected for the study; characters and plots have been analyzed in detail. Githa newlineHariharan articulates every single and sensible issue of Indian women: may it be newlineHindu or Muslim in her novels. Three themes namely myth, society and identity are newlinethoroughly studied and analyzed in all the novels of Githa Hariharan; in addition to newlinethat symbols and images used in the novels are interpreted in detail.
