A Study of foramen ovale and its relationship with surrounding osseous structures in dry human skull bones of Rajasthan population and its implication in diagnostic and neurosurgical procedures

Abstract

The foramen ovale is situated in the cerebral surface of the greater wing of the sphenoid bone and opens into the infratemporal fossa The structures which that pass through the foramen ovale are the mandibular nerve accessory meningeal artery lesser petrosal nerve and emissary vein The shape of the foramen ovale FO in the human skull can vary and may include bony projections which can impact the structures passing through it Knowledge of metric and non metric parameters of foramen ovale and location or relationship with surrounding osseous structures is essential for neurosurgeons to perform surgical interventions like microvascular decompression by percutaneous trigeminal rhizotomy electroencephalographic analysis and percutaneous biopsy of cavernous sinus through external approach newline
