newlineAn efficient multicomponent method is described for the synthesis of a variety of
newlinetrisubstituted 2-pyrones and polysubstituted phenols based on the Zn-catalyzed cascade
newlinereactions between ynone compounds and active methylene group containing diesters.
newlineThe key strategy used involves the Zn-catalyzed ynone synthesis followed by
newlineKnoevenagel condensation and elimination. This methodology is also applied to the
newlinesynthesis of poylsubstuited phenols.
