Role and Regulation of Matrix Metalloproteinase 2 Mmp 2 And Mmp 9 in Chewing Tobacco Mediated Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Abstract

Objectives: Oral cancer is one of the most common cancer in the world and maximum newlinenumber of cases are found in India. Despite continued improvements in surgery, newlinechemotherapy and radiation therapy, the frequent treatment failure is due to the failure newlineto control locoregional invasion and distance migration of oral squamous cell newlinecarcinoma (OSCC). Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are the group of enzymes newlinehaving protease activity that can degrade the extracellular matrix. Gelatinases like newlinegelatin A and B (MMP-2 and MMP-9) are known for the basement membrane newlinedegradation and invasion in OSCC. The objective of this thesis is to find out role and newlineregulation of MMP-2 and MMP-9 causing invasion to OSCC and to target these newlinemolecule/s and their upstream pathway/s in cell culture. newlineMethods: In the present study, one hundred eighty seven human OSCC samples, newlineincluding one hundred twenty seven fresh samples were included. Those comprises newlinedifferent adjacent normal (AN), noninvasive (N0), and invasive (N1-3) tumor/ control newlinesamples.
