| dc.description.abstract | Polymer matrix composites (PMC) are used today in many structural and aerospace applications. PMC possess significantly improved properties including high specific modulus, specific strength, impact toughness, stiffness, dimensional stability and corrosion resistance. The advanced polymer laminated composites are used due to light weight characteristics as structural materials. This is the basic requirement for all transportation systems. The research and development of high performance structural materials for automotive applications are focused for long on weight saving along with optimal mechanical properties especially improved energy absorbing capability under impact conditions. The characteristic of hybrid fibre composite materials is that different fibres can interact with each other and match in coordination, different mixing ratios and different structures, adaptability can be broadened, and design freedom can be increased. Commonly used hybrid is a mixture of the carbon fibre and glass fibre. Carbon fibre provides high specific strength and specific modulus and glass fibre provides better toughness and lower newline | |
