| dc.description.abstract | A failure in highly hazardous industries like nuclear and chemical may lead to newlinecatastrophic events resulting in multiple fatalities, significant economic loss and damage newlineto company s reputation. Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is a safety and newlinereliability analysis tool that systematically identifies the consequences of component newlinefailure on systems and determines the significance of each failure mode concerning the newlinesystem performance. FMEA uses a Risk Priority Number (RPN) for ranking the failure newlinemodes. RPN is commonly calculated as the product of the risk factors viz; Occurrence newline(O), Severity (S) and Non-Detection (D) of the failure modes. When FMEA is used newlinein criticality analysis of failure modes of components, it is referred to as Failure Mode newlineEffect and Criticality Analysis (FMECA). newline | |
