Abstract
The heart is electrically stimulated by the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) through
newlinesympathetic and parasympathetic branches. The balancing action of these two branches
newlineresults into modulation of the Heart Rate (HR). The fluctuation of the HR over time may yield
newlineabundant information about cardiac health, which is defined as Heart Rate Variability (HRV)
newlineanalysis. Thus, HRV analysis has the ability to assess the cardiac health as well as the state of
newlineANS modulating cardiac activity.
newlineA wide range of clinical applications of HRV is available in the literature including cardio-
newlinevascular diseases, diabetes, neuropsychiatric disorders, depression, sleep disorders etc.. At the
newlinesame time, age, gender, height, weight, BMI related differences; socio-ethnic cardiovascular
newlinedifferences are also reported in some HRV analysis. Still, the field is wide open and there is a
newlineneed to explore HRV analysis under various influencing factors, be it clinical, environmental
newlineor statistical.
