Experimental Investigation on the Properties of Briquettes Made from Ideal Municipal Solid Waste

Abstract

The global community is becoming increasingly concerned about the twin challenges of environmental pollution and resource depletion. The growing dependence on fossil fuels has led to two major issues: a decline in fossil fuel reserves and a sharp rise in environmental degradation. In response, this study proposes an innovative strategy for mitigating waste by converting it into briquettes, which are suitable for mass production and testing in a downdraft gasifier for practical applications. Projections indicate that global municipal solid waste (MSW) generation could rise from 2.10 billion tonnes in 2023 to 3.80 billion tonnes by 2050. Meanwhile, around 170 billion metric tonnes of biomass are produced annually across the globe.
