Abstract
Ethiopia s higher education institutions are encountering a plethora of challenges. The benefits of
newlinestrategic management to institutions have been documented. In recent years, Ethiopian public
newlineuniversities have adopted strategic management (SM) approaches. However, the way SM
newlinepractices are carried out determines success or failure. This study is aimed to assess the SM
newlinepractices and their impact on the organizational commitment of academic staff at North Cluster
newlinePublic Universities (NCPUs) of Ethiopia. Organizational success demands both SM practices and
newlineorganizational commitment (OC). Conducting research on these topics in the setting of public
newlinehigher education institutions in developing nations like Ethiopia has paramount significance.

newlinemethods research design was adopted. A cross-sectional survey employing a semi-structured fivepoint Likert scale was used to gather quantitative data. It was distributed to 390 randomly
newlineselected participants from the targeted universities, comprising faculties and administrators.
newlineAdministrators were interviewed using a semi-structured personal interview method to gather
newlinequalitative data. By employing the SPSS version 25 quantitative data were analyzed. Descriptive
newlinestatistics and as well as inferential statistics such as Pearson correlation and multiple linear
newlineregression were computed.
newlineTheories like POS, RBV, and SET were utilized to describe and develop the hypothesis that
newlinedemonstrates the potential relationship between SM practices and OC as well as its components.
newlineThe hypothesized causal relationship between SM practices and OC and its components was
newlinetested using multiple linear regression analysis.
newlineQuantitative and qualitative results reveal that both administrators and faculties were supportive
newlineof SM adoption and deployment. Further, the results demonstrate the SM practices in place.
newlineHowever, strategy implementation and strategy evaluation were received less attention compared
