A Study of Teacher Effectiveness in Relation to Thinking Style Occupational Stress and Demographic Variables of Secondary School Teachers

Abstract

The present study was undertaken to examine the teacher effectiveness in relation to thinking style, occupational stress and demographic variables of secondary school teachers. A representative sample of 800 Secondary school Teachers of Agra Mandal (Agra, Firozabad, Mathura, Mainpuri) was randomly selected. For the collection of data the self constructed tools of Teacher Effectiveness Scale, Thinking style Scale and Occupational Stress Scale developed by Sajid Jamal and Abdul Raheem were used. The collected data was analyzed by applying mean, S.D, t- test and correlation. The findings of the study revealed that 44% teachers are moderately effective and 29.50 % teachers are under the ineffective category. The study also showed that most of the teachers preferred conservative style, executive style, hierarchic style and liberal style and other styles were least preferred. Study also showed that 41.12% teachers are in the category of above average stress. There was no significant difference between the teacher effectiveness of male and female and rural and urban secondary school teachers. Results revealed that there found a significant difference between legislative, executive, hierarchic and internal thinking style of male and female teachers where as insignificant difference found in judicial, monarchic, anarchic, oligarchic, global, external, local, liberal, conservative thinking style of male and female teachers. There is significant difference in legislative, judicial, hierarchic, monarchic, oligarchic, global, external and liberal thinking style of urban and rural secondary school teachers. But in case of other styles it was found that there exist no significant difference in executive, Anarchic, local, internal and conservative thinking style of rural and urban secondary school teachers. There is no significant difference between the occupational stress of male and female and rural and urban secondary schools teachers. The Findings revealed that there was high positive relationship between the Teacher effectiveness and conservative style and executive style. The findings showed that there is moderate positive correlation between teacher effectiveness and Occupational stress of secondary school teachers. Positive correlation was found between teacher effectiveness and Teaching Experience and locale and negative correlation was found between teacher effectiveness and gender. newline
