dc.description.abstractFlue gas emissions in the atmosphere due to the combustion processes pose serious environmental concern. CO2 and NOx are considered as two main greenhouse gases causing increase in global temperature. Porous materials such as zeolites and metal organic frameworks have been used for carbon capture from post combustion gas streams due to their large capacity and selective CO2 adsorption. Also, the cation addition changes the adsorption property in zeolite structures in two ways: 1) By creating stronger adsorption sites and 2) decrease in the uptake of CO2 due to reduction in free volume. Thus in the present study an attempt has been made to synthesize zeolite materials of Linde Type A (LTA) and faujasite (FAU) families for the adsorption of effluent gases from automobiles. Zeolite (NaA, NaY and KA) powders and thin films were synthesized by combining aluminium, sodium hydroxide, sodium metasilicate by sol-gel method. Tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide was used as a Structure Directing Agent (SDA). Zeolite NaA powders and thin films were synthesized by sol-gel method. X-ray diffraction studies revealed that the synthesized zeolite NaA powder and thin films have planes of cubic structure morphology corresponding to Linde Type A (LTA) zeolites. The scanning electron microscope images show that the zeolite NaA powders have a sharp edged cubic structure of LTA zeolite. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis pattern of zeolite NaA has a composition of O-58.5 at %, Na-6.90 at %, Al-19.88 at %, and Si- 15.77 at %. The crystallite size of the zeolite NaA was ranging from 1.4and#956;m-2.3and#956;m. The scanning electron microscope image of the annealed samples of zeolite NaA coated and#945;-alumina substrate showed the formation of sharp edge cubic crystals of zeolite LTA of size ranging from 1.1and#956;m-2and#956;m. Also, zeolite NaA coated Mild Steel (MS) substrate showed uniform coating over the surface. Few spherical particles of polymer layer along with zeolite crystals were observed on the membrane. newline
