Abstract
Abiotic stresses are a significant risk to agricultural productivity. Some of these stresses viz., crop salt tolerance and heavy metal stresses have been reduced by the use of polyamines (PA). Polyamines are small aliphatic polycations, ubiquitously present in all organisms generally exhibiting their role in a wide range of biological processes. Cadaverine (Cad), a structurally different diamine as that of putrescine and having an independent biosynthetic pathway concerning different polyamines is viewed as a growth regulator and follows a similar method of action. There are studies that have shown the mitigation of stresses in various crops like brassica, bermudagrass, and leguminous plants by Cad. However, a significant study of Cad on tomatoes has not been reported. Therefore, the effect of Cad on tomatoes(Lycopersicon esculentum) to mitigate abiotic stress was studied in the present investigations. To assess the functions in multiple stress responses, the effects of exogenous Cad were analyzed in tomato plants and several physiological and molecular studies were conducted. Signature proteins involved in biological and biochemical processes were identified. During cell rescue and defense mechanisms, protein expressions involved were studied. Taken together, these experiments delivered a fine understanding of Cad-induced multiple stress resistance by proteomic methods providing a practical perception for improvising multiple stress tolerance in the global epoch.
