Development of novel nanostructured materials for multifunctional sensing applications

Abstract

The present thesis deals with development of Se-NPs and C-dots. The selenous acid and sodium borohydride are used as precursor sources for the development of Se-NPs. The different types of surfactants and glycols have been utilized as a templating agent. The biocompatible behavior of prepared particles has been investigated by using multi-assay approach and it has been found that Brij-58 coated Se-NPs are highly biocompatible in nature. The prepared particles have further been utilized for the removal of harmful dyes released from industrial waste for the environmental remediation. Further, biocompatible C-dots have been synthesized by using common waste material as a precursor source via using thermal calcination treatment. The pearl millet seeds, waste coconut husk and agarose gel have shown a good potential during the synthesis of fluorescent C-dots. The detailed characterization analysis of prepared C-dots has been carried out to evaluate their physicochemical properties. Their biocompatible behavior has been explored through different biological activities. Cdots have also been utilized for the sensing of harmful toxic metal ions and biological components. Additionally, C-dots have been utilized to study their agronomical providences. Further, Se-NPs and C-dots have been mixed together to form Se doped C-dots (SeatC-dots) nanohybrid system and their optical and emission properties have been recorded. They have further been utilized for the sensitive and selective detection of antibiotics. newline
