| dc.description.abstract | Materials development has evolved over the decades to realize active and passive materials in adaptive structural applications. In the recent decade efforts are initiated to assemble newlinemultifunctional structures and devices (at research institutes, academics and research centers). More commonly, Piezoelectric materials (PZT), Shape Memory Alloys (SMA), newlineCarbon Microfibers (CMF), Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs), and smart polymers such as, Shape newlineMemory Polymers (SMPs) and Electro Active Polymers (EAPs) are being explored to newlinedevelop smart structures. The main objective is to redefine the conventional materials with newlinepassive properties (no multifunctional behaviour to external stimulus) to make them active newlineunder multiple applied stimulus. That is, the material properties such as electrical, thermal, newlinemechanical, magnetic and electro-mechanical behaviours are made functional and active to respond to more than one stimulus. This will help develop new materials to from nanoscale newlineas well as newline | |
