dc.description.abstractnewline The concept of microgrids recently gained popularity worldwide, because of newlinethe addition of distributed generations (DGs) in the distributed network. One of the newlinekey issues related to microgrids is the develop of an accurate and reliable protection newlinescheme. Identifying faults and their discrimination from switching transients newline(capacitor and load switching) and external faults is challenging in the microgrid. newlineAlso, the presence of noise in the measurement can make identification more difficult. newlineResearchers from all around the globe are working hard to design a microgrid newlineprotection approach. One of the main difficulties related to the use of microgrids is newlinethe development of a robust protection technique for high impedance faults (HIFs). newlineHIFs led to small fault current values which may not be identified by conventional newlinerelays. This issue becomes challenging, particularly in the islanded mode with the newlineincorporation of inverter-based distributed generators (IBDGs). There are various newlineconventional and modern protection schemes for microgrid feeders described in the newlineliterature. However, these protection schemes may not provide satisfactory results in newlinethe case of islanded microgrids with Photovoltaic (PV) and faults during HIFs. So, newlinethere needs to be a microgrid feeder protection scheme that can be used in islanded newlinemode as well as HIFs for PV-integrated microgrids. In this thesis, five newlinerelaying protection techniques have been developed for the protection of microgrid newlinefeeders, while taking into account the aforementioned needs and limitations.
