Abstract

Image segmentation is a process which excerpts meaningful information from a digital image. It plays vital role in image understanding and analysis. It has widespread applications in medical disease diagnosis, satellite image analysis, face recognition, finger print recognition, traffic control and many more. It is a recent emerging field in the modern science among young researchers. Particularly image segmentation has significant importance in medical image analysis since most of the diseases can be diagnosed and analyzed with the help of medical imaging methods. X-ray, computer tomography, ultrasound scan mammography and magnetic resonance imaging are the frequent medical imaging methods used to capture medical images.
