Analysis Design and Development of Planar and Non Planar Antenna for High Data Rate Communication

Abstract

The modern portable wireless communication system demands a compact antenna with newlinebetter antenna performance. This thesis presents planar and non-planar antenna system newlinedesign for high data rate communications, i.e.video transmission applications, Cognitive newlineRadio(CR) based Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) applications. This dissertation newlineis broadly classified into four parts. The first part of the dissertation deals with the UWB newlineMIMO antenna, which covers the 3-12 GHz, frequency band. Generally, due to the size newlinelimitation of portable devices, antenna elements are placed in close proximity, which newlineresults in very high coupling between the elements of the MIMO antenna. Therefore, newlinethe first part of the thesis also discusses the novel decoupling structure to accomplish newlinehigh isolation between the radiators. In this work, a four-port and eight-port UWB newlineMIMO antenna are designed to operate 3.1-10.6 GHz. Initially, a compact four-port newlinedouble-sided MIMO antenna was designed to achieve 3.1-10.6 GHz bandwidth. The newlineproposed four-port UWB MIMO antenna comprises four polygon-shaped radiating elements newlineand a defective ground structure(DGS). To realize low mutual coupling between newlinefour radiators, the double-sided Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) structure was employed. newlineSecondly, an eight-port UWB MIMO antenna was designed to achieve 3-12 newlineGHz impedance bandwidth newline
