Coping with the external rhythms of life The early fiction of Margaret Drabble

Abstract

The present study shows how through a gradual evolution of consciousness the arid frozen and solipsistic imaginative enclosures melt with the warm life force of human love which leads to a contact with the recognition of the external world with the accompanying involvemants and commitments This in turn recharges and refurbishes the self in its moment by moment existence
