Evaluating the effects of phyllanthus emblica extract tinospora cordifolia extract and their combination on rat kidney cell injury model

Abstract

The present study investigates the therapeutic potential of Phyllanthus emblica and Tinospora cordifolia extracts in diabetic nephropathy using both in vitro and in vivo models. High glucose-induced NRK-52E renal cells were assessed through MTT assay and flow cytometry to evaluate cell viability and renal apoptosis. In vivo experiments demonstrated that treatment with the extracts alleviated diabetic nephropathy symptoms by reducing body weight loss, blood glucose levels, serum creatinine, and blood urea nitrogen. Furthermore, the extracts restored antioxidant enzyme activity and decreased lipid peroxidation. Molecular analysis revealed that the extracts exert anti-apoptotic effects by downregulating Bax and Caspase-3 while upregulating Bcl-2 expression. These findings suggest that the antioxidant and anti-apoptotic properties of Phyllanthus emblica and Tinospora cordifolia contribute to their protective role in mitigating diabetic nephropathy. newline
