Integrating Unmanned Aerial System towards Achievement of Key Expectations in Future IoT Solutions

Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) is often envisioned as a paradigm shift from the traditional newlineInternet to a scenario where all the things will be connected through the Internet and newlinetheir enhancing capabilities will play an active role within the Cyber-Physical world. IoT newlineforced the novelty of bringing heterogeneous devices and protocols under one umbrella to newlineenable seamless interaction among them. To this end, a plethora of IoT standards and newlinedefinitions have been proposed over the last decade. However, a common consensus over newlinethese standards and definitions is yet to be achieved. Another contemporary issue faced newlineby the IoT research community is the absence of a clear functional view of different IoT newlinecomponents working together in a cohesive manner to achieve the envisioned connected newlineeverything phenomena that serve the bigger objective of gathering the information and newlineprocessing it for better decision-making. In spite of astounding advancements in various newlineIoT-enabling technologies, the true realization of the IoT concept is still far-fetched. For newlinethe maturation of IoT to full capacity and harness maximum benefits from it, future IoT newlinesolutions require repletion of three key expectations and addressing the critical challenges newlineincluding limited network coverage and distribution of resources. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have recently gained significant attention due to their acute mobility, equitable newlineoperational costs, flexible on-demand deployment, and autonomous capabilities. newline
