Abstract
Rubber materials offer distinct advantages over metals and ceramics. The inherent flexibility and elasticity of rubber make it ideal for applications requiring malleability and shock absorption. Unlike metals, rubber is non-conductive, making it suitable for electrical insulation, and it also exhibits superior corrosion resistance. Compared to ceramics, rubber is lightweight, providing a balance between durability and reduced overall weight. Rubber blends, already highly versatile, allow for enhanced performance through bespoke compositions tailored to unique application needs. These blends combine the resilience of rubber with other desirable properties, broadening their industrial applications and optimizing functionality.
newlineNatural Rubber (NR) and Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) possess complementary advantages and limitations. NR is valued for its exceptional elasticity, tear resistance, and high tensile strength, making it ideal for tires, automotive components, and industrial products. However, it is susceptible to ozone and UV-induced degradation. EPDM, on the other hand, excels in weather resistance, UV stability, and ozone resistance, making it suitable for outdoor and automotive seal applications, though it has lower tensile strength compared to NR. Blending NR and EPDM combines their strengths, offering improved elasticity, weather resistance, and performance, while enabling customization to meet specific application demands.
