Gendered disabled lives: a study of bengali women

Abstract

This study explores the daily lives of women with physical disabilities newlinein the social and cultural context of Bengal in order to understand the processes newlineand ideologies through which the simultaneous influence of gender and newlinedisability structures the experiences of these women with regard to newlinesocialisation embodiment and construction of identity The dearth of studies newlinedocumenting the lives of disabled women sensitively and emerging field of newlineFeminist Disability Studies provided the impetus for this study that situates newlinewomen within their particular context in order to study the ways in which newlinedifference between women is constructed perpetuated and maintained at the newlinelevel of ideology and daily lived practices
