Abstract
newline Drought is universally recognized as a water scarcity phenomenon. Proper assessment of
newlinerainfall and vegetation is an essential requirement to reduce drought intensity. During the
newlinecurrent study, 40-year monthly rainfall data were used for the calculation of meteorological
newlinedrought frequency by using the Rainfall anomaly index (RAI) and standardized precipitation
newlineindex (SPI), While Agricultural drought has been monitored by the MODIS NDVI
newlineVegetation Condition Index (VCI) over Upper Gangetic Plains. Spatial and temporal
newlinevariations in meteorological and vegetative droughts in the Upper Gangetic Plains have been
newlineanalyzed and correlated for monsoon month. The results revealed that RAI and SPI showed
newlinethe similar drought event from the study period while the VCI maps indicate that vegetation
newlinegrowth is dependent on water supply through rainfall and irrigation. These indices have been
newlinefurther compared with wet year (2013) and drought year (2015). Most of the eastern and
newlinecentral areas of the study were dry. The study shows that a combination of different indices
newlineshowed a good understanding of drought in order to define potential sites for reducing risk in
newlinethe future. The present study was planned to determine the phenology and heat unit
newlinerequirement of promising wheat varieties under different crop growing environment of
newlinePrayagraj, India. Delay in sowing of wheat results into reduction in the grain yield as the
newlinecrop exposes to high temperature at phenological stages. A field experiment on wheat
newline(variety PBW-502) was conducted at the farm nursery, College of Forestry, SHUATS,
newlinePrayagraj during rabi seasons of 2018-19 and 2019-20. The experiment was conducted in
newlinefactorial randomized block design and replicated thrice with three dates of sowing and five
newlineirrigation levels. The yield attributes (grain and biological yield) were significantly
