Fruits Seed Essential Oils Infused Electrospun Nanofibrous Mats for Wound Healing Applications

Abstract

Over the past century, medical knowledge has advanced inconceivably on a global newlinescale. Despite improvements in medical science and technology, not everyone could newlinereceive high-quality healthcare. Fire, accidents, and surgical procedures are the leading newlinecauses of skin damage. Infections, comorbidities, ageing, autoimmune disorders, genetic newlinedisorders, and malnutrition are typical causes of delayed wound healing. Overuse of newlinecommon antibiotics causes a host of side effects that can eventually become lifethreatening newlinein addition to bacteria that become resistant to them. newlineBio nanotechnology is already a real field because to electrospun micro/nano newlinefibrous mats. Although electrospun mats have been used as a material for wound newlinedressings by multiple investigators, their increased susceptibility to the colonisation of newlinepathogenic microorganisms constitutes an important threat to public health. Indian herbal newlinetherapy has been used for thousands of years to treat a wide range of illnesses. Several newlinepieces of evidence revealed that India had been using herbal therapy since 2500 BC. newlineIn this study, various essential oils viz., Jackfruit, Watermelon, and Papaya seeds newlinewere extracted. We have electrospun two different types of nanofibers, i) Poly-and#949;- newlineCaprolactone (PCL) /Gelatin mats containing Jackfruit, Watermelon, and Papaya EO and newlineii) PCL/Chitosan nanofibrous mats containing Jackfruit, Watermelon, and Papaya EO. newlinePhysical characterization of the nanofibers was carried out using Field Emission Scanning newlineElectron Microscopy (FESEM), High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy newline(HRTEM), Water Contact Angle (WCA) measurement, Fourier Transform Infrared newlineSpectroscopy (FTIR) and table top tensile tester. The essential oils infused nanofibers newlinewere evaluated for its antibacterial activity using Kirby Bauer disc diffusion assay newline
