dc.description.abstractOctenidine gel is applied over the wound and creates a hydrophobic film that acts as an occlusive dressing by preventing bacteria from infecting the wound. Povidone-iodine dressing is applied over the wound in order to kill any bacteria present in the wound. To compare the study in terms of mean percentage reduction in the ulcer area Bacterial count. newlineMaterial and Methods newlineType of study: prospective , randomized control trial(RCT) 1. Group A- Octenidine dressing 2. Group B- Povidone iodine dressing Study center: Department of general surgery ,CHRI Sample size: 50 patients compared the efficacy of octenidine wound gel versus povidoneiodine dressing for acute infected wound ulcers. The study was done to assess the efficacy of octenidine wound gel versus povidone-iodine dressing for acute infected wound ulcers. The investigators hypothesized that octenidine would be more efficacious in reducing bacterial load than povidone-iodine dressing. This study sought to determine if there is a statistically significant difference between the two treatments in terms of clinical success and reduction in bacterial load. newlineResults newlineA study compared Octenidine gel and povidone-iodine dressing for infected wound ulcers. Patients aged 51-60 had the highest usage of Octenidine dressing, followed by those aged 41-50 at 24%. Povidone-iodine daily dressing was most common at 40%. Symptoms varied between groups, with no significant gender-study relationship. Normal Hb, HbA1C, and TLC levels were found in both groups. Undermining wound healing benefits by releasing margins, reducing strain, and limiting scar issues. Both groups displayed 100% wound coverage by day 15. newlineConclusion newlineOctenidine and Povidone-iodine are effective treatments for infected wound ulcers, with Octenidine excelling in biofilm disruption and odour control. However, the small difference in scores is not statistically significant.
