| dc.description.abstract | BACKGROUND: Stress is a common factor among young adults; a young adult life newlineis subjected to different kind of stressors, such as the pressure of academics with an newlineobligation of success, uncertain future and difficulties envisaged for integration into newlinethe system. Stress can be positive or negative to an individual, depending on the newlinestrengthen persistence of stress, the individuals personality, cognitive appraisal of the newlinestress and social support. Stress affects young adults physically, emotionally and newlinesocially. which may affect their academic performance. This study aims to know the newlinelevel of stress among young adults and coping strategies they use to manage their newlinestress. Methods and Materials: To investigate the young adults stress and coping newlinestrategies, a quantitative approach, Exploratory-descriptive research design was newlineadopted. The samples for the study were selected through non- probability purposive newlinesampling technique. The participants of the study were 800 young adults who .were newlinethe age group between 18 to 24 years were studying at selected colleges, Shimoga, newlineKarnataka. Dr. Ahmed modified structured 5 point likert scale, and modified newlinestructured 5 point coping strategy likert scale used to assess the level of stress and newlinecoping strategies of young adults were administered to collect the data. The obtained newlinedata were analyzed by using SPSS-20 software. More specifically Descriptive, newlinePearsons correlation test and Chi-square were used in order to find out the association newlinebetween level of stress and coping strategies with their selected socio demographic newlinevariables. The level of significance at Plt0.05. Results : The findings of the study newlinerevealed that Majority ,620 (77.5%) of the subjects had less stress, 175 (21.9%) of the newlinesubject experience an average stress and remaining 5 (0.6%) of the subjects newlineexperienced high stress. In this regard to coping strategies 36.1% of the young adults newlinehad low coping strategies, 485 ( 60.6%) of the subjects had moderate coping and newlineremaining 26 (3.2%) of the subject shad good coping str | |
