Circular and Square Cylindrical towers are used in various field like wind turbine towers Meteorological towers marine risers off shores structures tall and short building structures a group of chimney stacks bridge piers tubes in heat exchangers and chemical reaction towers The fluid forces and vortex frequencies have been considered for the design of the engineering structures Both steady and unsteady fluid forces acting on the structures were coupled with characteristics of flow structures The alternating vortex shedding induced by the structures impinging upon structures present downstream and leads to a large fluctuating pressure on the structures, causing structural vibration acoustic noise and resonance which cause structural failure This failure of the structures was due not only to surface pressure distribution but also to the effect of a wake induced by the flow separation Flow around the bluff body has aroused interest in many a researcher The wake characteristics of the circular and square cylindrical uniform and tapered tower have been focused in this research work The objective of the research is to characterize the downstream velocity using wind speed ratio wake width geometric angle and the effect of taper ratio Circular and square cylindrical towers with various tapered ratios have been considered for the experimental investigation.
